The Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Maryland provides educational programs at the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. levels and research programs at the frontier of the field to meet the challenges in providing materials with advanced properties, educational training for solving materials problems, and leadership for advancing the discipline.

Welcome to the Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Maryland. Materials Science and Engineering is a multidisciplinary field focused on developing and characterizing materials and materials systems that provide the underpinnings for advancing technology and science into the future. The development of many major advances in science and technology has been predicated on advances the underlying materials systems and the field of Materials Science and Engineering is leading the effort in continuing this growth for the benefit of society.
