"Plasmon Resonances in Nanoparticles"

Plasmon resonances in nanoparticles have been the focus of considerable research lately due to their numerous technological applications. In the talk, the eigen-mode approach to the description of plasmon resonances in nanoparticles will be presented. The general properties of plasmon spectrum and plasmon resonance modes will be discussed along with such issues as tuning and controllability of plasmon resonances, coupling of specific plasmon modes to incident optical radiation and time dynamics of plasmon modes excitation and dephasing. Finally, possible applications of plasmon resonances to the design of all-optical nano-transistors, to thermally assisted magnetic data storage as well as to all-optical magnetic recording will be outlined.
