Fischell Department of Bioengnieering professor Peter Kofinas and Department of Materials Science and Engineering professor Manfred Wuttig presented some their current research projects at the International Workshop on Novel Nanomagnetic and Multifunctional Materials held in Seoul, Korea in June 2012.
The workshop's goal was to encourage international collaborations for the development of functionalized nanomagnetic materials for use in sensing, detection, and renewable energy.
Wuttig's presentation, "Inorganic and Organic Self-organized Multiferroics," included a discussion of his work on spinodally decomposed perovskite/ferrite gels and ordered diblock copolymers. Kofinas' presentation, "Low Loss Magnetodielectric Polymer Nanocomposites for Radio Frequency Applications," focused on his development of materials for antennas that exhibit high permeability and permittivity and minimal dielectric and magnetic loss.
Hannam University, Seoul National University, and the University of Tennessee organized the workshop, which received financial support from the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Asian Office of Aerospace Research & Development, the U.S. Army International Technology Center–Pacific, Seoul National University, and Hannam University.
