Washington, D.C., was ranked 5th in the nation for being a top city for technology start-ups according to a list by USA TODAY and the National Venture Capital Association.

The region was cited for giving rise to the likes of AOL and LivingSocial.

USA TODAY quoted Washington entrepreneur Zvi Band as saying, "Every major organization and non-profit has a presence here, so it's really attractive."
