Nine Materials Science and Engineering professors—half of the department's tenure-track and tenured faculty—were recently recognized at the University of Maryland Division of Research's 14th Annual Research Leaders Luncheon.

Professors Mohamad Al-Sheikhly, Robert M. Briber, John Cumings, Gottlieb Oehrlein, Oded Rabin, Alexander Roytburd, Gary Rubloff, Ichiro Takeuchi and Manfred Wuttig were honored for their efforts in bringing sponsored research dollars to campus.

The professors' work covers a wide variety of disciplines and areas, including radiation engineering, polymers, X-ray and neutron scattering, electron microscopy, nanotechnology, plasma processing, plasmonics, ferroelectric and ferromagnetic materials, thin films, combinatorial synthesis, fuel cells phase transformations and self-organized materials.
