Materials Science and Engineering graduate student Mey Saied has won the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Predoctoral Fellowship for Minority Students. This high-profile, competitive five-year grant is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The research is conducted in collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Princeton University, New Jersey State University Dental School, and New York University. The fellowship supports minority students engaged in cross-disciplinary research in biomedical, behavioral sciences, or health services.
Saied's proposal, "Effects of glass joins on performance and lifetime of layered ceramic systems," which focuses on new compositing techniques for manufacturing and increasing the lifespan of dental crowns, was the top-scorer among those submitted.
Saied is advised by MSE Associate Professor Isabel Lloyd.
